Call for a World Ethics Summit
Our correspondent in Tokyo, Hon. Mitsuhei Murata, “Murata-san” to those of us who appreciate his wisdom, issues this powerful Call for World Ethics Summit. It is true that the arbiters of risk in our society, the insurance actuaries have determined Nuclear Power to be an “uninsurable risk” — they cannot calculate an insurance premium that would clear the market and protect the public. Public companies cannot invest shareholder funds in such risks.
The market has built-in mechanisms to prevent such risks, but in the case of Nuclear Power (and also in the case of Vaccination — the only two such examples) political authority has decreed that we live with that risk.
This is an ethical choice forced on all of us without our Informed Consent. As such, it is an immoral, unconscionable choice.
This writer therefore joins in Murata-san’s Call for a World Ethics Summit, not, however, to further empower a global elite who are willing to coerce our submission to incalculable risks. The purpose of the Summit must be to hold those who would govern us accountable, and subject them to the highest ethical standards, to ensure meaningful Informed Consent. RF
